Power Control

Power Control

As part of an EMS, PQMS or ENMS system, C-Matic Systems have since 2001 provided integrated control solutions for buildings and facilities. Our offer is referred to as the L-Con.

Our first building electrical control system utilised 5 sets of dual redundant industrial PC controllers networked to a pair of redundant master controllers. The system was responsible for the control of 150 LV breakers in the LV electrical infrastructure of a finance centre in the city of London. The system was combined with an ION Enterprise power monitoring system for load monitoring – this also provided the operator view on the control system with 17 dynamic stages of load control.

This project involved a live building going through staged refurbishment. During the project it became apparent that testing time on the live building would be at a premium. To overcome this a full software simulator was designed to offer back to back scenario testing of the L-Con system.

Today the system for this building is supported via and enhanced PDSA contract. A mirror hardware system is maintained at our facility in Crowborough. This provides full support of the system as well as a useful training tool. With the simulator and L-Con systems connected back to back, maintenance engineers from the site can be trained on the operation for the L-Con and ION Enterprise system, away from the site and the risks associated.

For commercial landlords we provide tenant usage OFGEM billing systems combined with tenant’s tap-off control. These utilise a mid range ION meter with dual communications. One channel is linked to ION Enterprise for meter billing data retrieval – the other is connected to the PLC load control system to control the tenants tap off under mains failure, generator operation and mains restore conditions.

Our L-Con systems work alongside our Power & Energy management systems and often utilise the PowerLogic® ION Enterprise software, which provides an interactive graphical overview of both the power management monitoring and control. Alternatively a SCADA system, such as Citect, can be provided to operate in parallel with PowerLogic® ION Enterprise software. We are a registered Citect Silver Integration partner - CIP.

Systems today typically utilises the Allen Bradley ControlLogix PLC platform with PanelView HMIs. Other PLC manufacturers preferred by clients can be integrated into control schemes as required.
